I Love Korean Food

November 2013,

Kim-Bap

Kim-Bap (gim-bop) Translation seaweed rice. This is a classic Korean Dish that is easy to make and convenient to take everywhere. It's great by itself or it can compliment other foods like spicy noodle soups. It is basically a Korean version of Sushi.

Here's how to make it:

Fish Sausage
Artificial Crab Meat
 Carrots
.
Eggs

Cook eggs and make flat then roll like an omelet
Lightly cook the artificial crap meat and fish cake

Chop all items into long skinny pieces for rolls
Sesame Oil is used to instead of other cooking oils for flavor.

Starting left to right: Carrots, Yellow Raddish, Fish Sausage, Fish Cake, Crab Meat, Egg
Take seaweed sheets and place on rolling mat. Then spread the rice on top of the seaweed.
Afterwards, take all the prepped ingredients and place one of each on top of rice like shown in the picture above.

Then roll tightly using the bamboo roller.
After rolling cut into small pieces or eat as is on the go!

Visit to MFAH (Museum of Fine Arts Houston)

 November 16th, 2013,

I visited the Museum of Fine Arts Houston because it's one of my favorite things to do, which is to view and experience fine arts.

I focused on capturing artworks this time that really speaks to me in a different way. I picked five specific works of art.

This is an Oil Painting on Canvas by Francesco Guardi "Regatta at the Rialto Bridge, Venice"

One of my favorite things about landscape drawings, is linear perspective. and this painting displays that in very high detail. I choose this because it is a destination I will visit sometime in the near future.

Oil on Canvas by Johan Christian Clausen Dahl "Shipwreck on the Coast of Capri"

I love the outdoors, and even more the water. The details are magnificent. This painting further explores the use of light in a painting. And again, another landscape.

This sculpture had no caption of who or what. Which baffles me why they would exhibit an artwork with out any information. Maybe, that's part of the experience, for the viewer to infer what one thinks is happening or the reason or meaning behind it.
I like this sculpture because to me it illustrates mans strength, and barbaric self. dressed in what looks like lion cloth while holding a wooden club, with the world on top in a kneeled submissive position. Very humbling.

This is one of my favorites. Yes, this is the tunnel to go from one exhibit to another at the museum. but this artwork was created by James Turrell. His artworks mostly consist of the experimentation of light and space. The neon lights changes colors to red, blue, and violet. and the space beyond the pathway is void or empty space illuminated by the neon lights. As you stand there for 5-10 minute or even longer it makes you feel as if your are in a state of trance. You feel a sense of floating in space or in a different world. Very trippy and very fun!

This is a bronze sculpture of "Seated Bronze Amitabha Buddha"

This specific sculpture is from the Goryeo Dynasty, 12th-13th Century Korea.

Since I am of Korean decent and even more specific "supposedly" I am of noble blood from the almighty Goryeo Dynasty.

Spiritually I like this artwork because of my religious standings and what I practice is more Buddhist than I realized.

Hindu House Warming Party Nov. 17th 2013

November 17th, 2013,

I attended a house warming party of my dear friends, Mihir and Nikki.

House warming parties in the Indian culture is a special and important religious event.

The first two hours of the event they had a pastor or priest from there church present. Every guest are able to take turns in front of the priest to say a prayer to the newlywed home owners. And as a group they chanted a prayer. The purpose of this is to say a prayer to protect their new home and bless with new beginnings as they create a home and family of their own.

After the blessings the couple went around to thank each and every guest for their prayers and gift. This took quite some time since there were very many people.

Afterwards, we ate!!! There was sooo much food and it was delicious! and it was all vegetarian.  The rest of the afternoon was more informal, filled with more food, snacks, and mingling with people, and getting to understand the Hindu culture

It was a very special experience for me and I felt very honored to take part in this spectacular chapter in their lives.

Camping Trip Thanksgiving 2013...stay tuned.

 November 27th-30th, 2013,

Will be going camping with the family over Thanksgiving this year at McKinney Falls State Park. We have reserved a campsite with only water and electricity. But we will be cooking food over a fire I will make with my bare hands!!!

Wednesday, November  27th, 2013

Freezing cold out this day, through out the afternoon it was it in the mid 40's and that is when I made the fire, pitched the tent, got all chairs and supplies ready for the night time, where the predicted lows were in the upper 20's!

I Spent the evening roasting by the fire and keeping warm we made s'mores over the fire and they were delicious! I also, spent some time getting my fishing rods/reels ready for the next morning.

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th, 2013

I Woke up super early to get a head start on fishing...but because it was around 29 degrees early in the AM it took us a while to get out of bed. As soon as I got up I started up another fire to heat up water hot enough for some coffee. It was very difficult,  and I couldn't feel my hands and as you know it's difficult to operate your hands with gloves.

Once we were awake, my sister and I started off with a hike. We spotted several deer from all ages and gender, and one good sized fox crossing the meadow near the river which was the nearest water source, and  was part the Upper Falls area of the park, we fished there for a little bit and explored the park.
We then headed down to the Lower Falls and we were able to climb down the water fall on the side and get down to where the water was and we were able to follow the river along for at least a good mile on rocky terrain and obstacles of giant Cypress tress, boulders etc...

We found a decent spot to fish but I think because of the cold water, no breeze, and still waters all contributed to bad conditions for fishing. I had a few bites but was unable to reel anything in.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon exploring trails, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. My mom joined us after lunch.

We then decided to take off early because of the freezing weather, and my Mother and Sister were unwilling to stay for another night. We decided to pack up that evening and headed home.

Short but sweet trip!

I will definitely be visiting McKinney Falls again!!!

Car is loaded with camping gear and plenty of warm blankets for Mom and Sis.
I had my own sleeping bag which I was super warm in.

 Pitching our tent!
Spicy Noodle Soup in a cup! Favorite camp food item!

Lower Falls

Hanging out at the Lower Falls...really observing for fishing for next morning.

Cool factoid about Austin.
Can you spot the deer?

Fishing...well trying to.
