I attended a house warming party of my dear friends, Mihir and Nikki.
House warming parties in the Indian culture is a special and important religious event.
The first two hours of the event they had a pastor or priest from there church present. Every guest are able to take turns in front of the priest to say a prayer to the newlywed home owners. And as a group they chanted a prayer. The purpose of this is to say a prayer to protect their new home and bless with new beginnings as they create a home and family of their own.
After the blessings the couple went around to thank each and every guest for their prayers and gift. This took quite some time since there were very many people.
Afterwards, we ate!!! There was sooo much food and it was delicious! and it was all vegetarian. The rest of the afternoon was more informal, filled with more food, snacks, and mingling with people, and getting to understand the Hindu culture
It was a very special experience for me and I felt very honored to take part in this spectacular chapter in their lives.
