November 27th-30th, 2013,
Will be going camping with the family over Thanksgiving this year at McKinney Falls State Park. We have reserved a campsite with only water and electricity. But we will be cooking food over a fire I will make with my bare hands!!!

Freezing cold out this day, through out the afternoon it was it in the mid 40's and that is when I made the fire, pitched the tent, got all chairs and supplies ready for the night time, where the predicted lows were in the upper 20's!
I Spent the evening roasting by the fire and keeping warm we made s'mores over the fire and they were delicious! I also, spent some time getting my fishing rods/reels ready for the next morning.
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th, 2013
I Woke up super early to get a head start on fishing...but because it was around 29 degrees early in the AM it took us a while to get out of bed. As soon as I got up I started up another fire to heat up water hot enough for some coffee. It was very difficult, and I couldn't feel my hands and as you know it's difficult to operate your hands with gloves.
Once we were awake, my sister and I started off with a hike. We spotted several deer from all ages and gender, and one good sized fox crossing the meadow near the river which was the nearest water source, and was part the Upper Falls area of the park, we fished there for a little bit and explored the park.
We then headed down to the Lower Falls and we were able to climb down the water fall on the side and get down to where the water was and we were able to follow the river along for at least a good mile on rocky terrain and obstacles of giant Cypress tress, boulders etc...
We found a decent spot to fish but I think because of the cold water, no breeze, and still waters all contributed to bad conditions for fishing. I had a few bites but was unable to reel anything in.
We then spent the rest of the afternoon exploring trails, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. My mom joined us after lunch.
We then decided to take off early because of the freezing weather, and my Mother and Sister were unwilling to stay for another night. We decided to pack up that evening and headed home.
Short but sweet trip!
I will definitely be visiting McKinney Falls again!!!
Car is loaded with camping gear and plenty of warm blankets for Mom and Sis.
I had my own sleeping bag which I was super warm in.
Pitching our tent!
Spicy Noodle Soup in a cup! Favorite camp food item!
Lower Falls
Hanging out at the Lower Falls...really observing for fishing for next morning.
